Wastwater
England’s deepest lake, near to Eskdale and situated
in the heart of the Western Lake District.
16 miles from Eskmeals House, Wastwater Lake is situated in Wasdale, in the Western Lake District and is Englands deepest lake.
At almost 3 miles in length, just over a third of a mile wide and approximately 260 feet deep, it is one of the UK’s finest examples of a glacial valley.
The surface of the lake is approximately 200 feet above sea level, while its bottom is over 50 feet below.
Located at the very end of Wastwater Lake is the Wasdale Head Inn.
Not only conveniently placed at the foot of England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike but also next to the Smallest Church in England (St. Olafs’) and home to the original World’s Biggest Liar, Will Ritson.
The countryside and lanes surrounding Wastwater are just as equally picturesque and guarantee a beautiful day out, whether you fancy walking, climbing, or just relaxing with a refreshing pint of real ale, or a tasty hot meal.
